The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to begin an apprenticeship while completing the requirements for their OSSD.  Students must be full-time, at least 16 years old and have at least 16 high school credits completed.  OYAP happens through cooperative education.

Students who are working in a skilled trades co-op may be registered as apprentices if their employer agrees.  The employer simply needs to agree to provide training opportunities for the student that are consistent with what is required in the Training Standard for that trade.  It is not a guarantee of employment.

The student benefits include - counting related co-op and part-time hours towards the apprenticeship, being put on the wait list for trade school earlier, gaining trade-specific skills and making employer connections.
