Accelerated OYAP Programs

ACCELERATED OYAP PROGRAMS ARE REGULAR APPRENTICESHIPS THAT INCLUDE A PORTION OF THE IN-SCHOOL TRAINING (TRADE SCHOOL) FOR THAT TRADE WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL.

The Simcoe County District School Board currently has two accelerated OYAP opportunities.  Accelerated OYAP programs offer graduating students the opportunity to work as an apprentice and complete Level 1 (Basic) apprenticeship training, while completing their high school requirements.

The 2 programs we currently offer are:

Hairstylist in Barrie - Students who are registered as apprentices prior to September of their grade 12 year may take the Basic Level apprenticeship course through Georgian College on Wednesday evenings from September to May during their grade 12 year.  In one of the semesters of grade 12, they will take a 4 credit co-op with a local hairstylist and continue earning hours towards their apprenticeship.  At the end of grade 12, they will have half of their in-school training completed and almost half of their on-the-job hours completed as well.  Because these students are taking Level One while in high school, the registration fee of $400 is waived.  For more information, please contact Sarah Kekewich at skekewich@scdsb.on.ca.

General Carpentry Dual Credit in Bracebridge -  Students who are registered as carpentry apprentices prior to February of their graduating year may participate.  This is a dual credit opportunity, in partnership with Georgian College, where  students gain 2 co-op credits, 2 dual credits and level 1 Carpentry during second semester of their graduating year.  All compuslory credits must be completed before starting the program.  All costs associated with Level One (transportation to Bracebridge, tool kit, books etc.) are covered through the dual credit program.  OYAP registration fee is waived as well.  more information, please contact Sarah Kekewich at skekewich@scdsb.on.ca.
