Description
Pool, hot tub and spa installers use power hand tools and other equipment to install the pool walls, liners, bottom finish and re-circulating systems in pools and hot tubs. They may also build a deck around the pool. Installers must be able to interpret blueprints and technical drawings, be aware of building and zoning codes, and consult efficiently with customers to get the job done.

Certification Requirements
  • The Pool, Hot Tub and Spa Installer apprenticeship consists of 5,520 hours of on-the-job training.
  • Apprentices must also complete two 8-week in-class technical training sessions.
  • Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship requirements, you receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship and are certified as a journeyperson in the trade.
  • A person with at least 6,000 hours of related work experience is eligible to apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment (TEA) and, if successful, becomes certified as a journeyperson in this trade.

Educational Prerequisites
Grade 12 or equivalent.
