Description
Packaging machine mechanics repair, maintain, and monitor packaging line equipment so that products get sent out on time. They read instructions for the product, install the proper equipment for the packaging line, and troubleshoot issues that arise while monitoring the process. Mechanics may also be responsible for cleaning and lubricating machine parts and adjusting conveyor belt speeds or other equipment.

Certification Requirements
  • The Packaging Machine Mechanic apprenticeship consists of 7,840 hours of on-the-job training.
  • Apprentices must also complete 160 hours of in-class technical training.
  • Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship requirements, you receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship and are certified as a journeyperson in the trade.
  • A person with at least 8,000 hours of related work experience is eligible to apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment (TEA) and, if successful, becomes certified as a journeyperson in this trade.

Educational Prerequisites
Grade 12 or equivalent.
