Structural and ornamental ironworkers make and install metalwork such as curtain walls, iron gates and doors, stairways, and railings in buildings. Ironworkers must be able to read instructions and construction plans. They may inspect metalwork for deterioration and maintain it by aligning and welding new bolts or other metal pieces into place.
Certification Requirements
Educational Prerequisites
Grade 10 or equivalent.
Note: High school graduation is recommended. Employers often require more than the minimum educational requirements set by the province. They may also prefer apprentices who have taken certain courses related to their program.
