Water well drillers construct and maintain water wells. This work also includes locating water sources, protecting ground water, maintaining drilling equipment, disinfecting completed wells, and installing or servicing pumps. It is outdoor work with a lot of travel between jobs. Drillers must be skilled at writing reports, following safety procedures, and consulting with customers to provide cost estimates for drilling new wells or restoring old ones.

• The Water Well Driller apprenticeship consists of 4,520 hours of on-the-job training.
• Apprentices must also complete two 8-week in-class technical training sessions.
• Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship requirements, you receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship and are certified as a journeyperson in the trade.
• A person with at least 5,000 hours of related work experience is eligible to apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment (TEA) and, if successful, becomes certified as a journeyperson in this trade.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
