Mould designers plan out the moulds that are used to shape plastic and other materials. They decide which type of mould should be used for a process, and then design the layout of the mould components. They then finalize the drawings of the mould design that will be used in manufacturing facilities to produce precisely measured parts.
Certification Requirements
Educational Prerequisites
The Mould Designer apprenticeship is granted to a person who has successfully completed a Certificate of Qualification as a mould maker and has on-the-job experience as a journeyperson.
Note: To enter the Mould Maker apprenticeship program, high school graduation is required. Employers often require more than the minimum educational requirements set by the province. They may also prefer apprentices who have taken certain courses related to their program.
