Locksmiths repair, service, and install all types of keys, locks, and mechanical or electrical access control systems. Locksmiths may travel to different sites, such as banks, to install locks and security systems. They may also build hardware in accordance with government regulations.

• The Locksmith apprenticeship consists of 6,000 hours of on-the-job training.
• Apprentices must complete 480 hours of in-class technical training.
• Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship requirements, you receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship and are certified as a journeyperson in the trade.
• A person with at least 6,000 hours of related work experience is eligible to apply for a Trade Equivalency Assessment (TEA) and, if successful, becomes certified as a journeyperson in this trade.

Grade 12 or equivalent.
