Mathew Hurlbut, from South Secondary participated in OYAP for welding in early 2012. This was a true turning point for Mathew. He excelled in the program and loved the work. He then enrolled in the Millwright Technician course at Lambton in fall 2012. He passed with flying colours, and in May headed west to find work. He went to Fort McMurray, Alberta and within two weeks, he had an apprentice welding positon, working with Aqua Industries. He worked long hours on the Suncor Oil fields, but he soaked up all the knowledge he could and loved every minute of it, all while making very good money! During this time, Mathew was also awarded the Bourque Mechanical Technician Award from Lambton College. He started a full time position with Aqua Industries in May of 2014. OYAP is such a great program that has made all the difference for where Mathew is today |
