How to Apply

If you think the skilled trades and apprenticeship are for you… follow these steps to get started on a path to a great career:

STEP 1
Choose a trade by doing your research.  The more you know about yourself, the better.  By exploring your interests, talents and abilities, and finding out more about various trades, you will discover a trade that is right for you.  Check out the great resources and links that are part of oyap.com as a start!

STEP 2
If you are a high school student who wants to get a head start by becoming part of the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), then you need to speak to your Guidance Counselor, Co-op Teacher or Technological Studies teacher about the first steps. They can help you to find a program that will best suit your needs.

STEP 3
You will need to make sure you have at least 16 credits, then take co-op so you can get a placement in your trade.

STEP 4
Finally, once you’ve decided that the trade is something you’d like to pursue, complete an OYAP application form so that you can enrol with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development.
