• Emphasis on safety is essential
  • OYAP students must receive health and safety instruction as part of the course requirements.  This includes:
  1. WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
  2. MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) training
  • OYAP students must receive industry specific health and safety instruction from the employer
  • The school board’s liability insurance protects students, employers and board employees during work experience programs.
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is covered through the Ministry of Education.
  1. Note: The employer is responsible for WSIB coverage beyond school hours and/or the OYAP/Co-op program.
  • OYAP students, parents, employers and teachers must sign a participation agreement form prior to work placement for insurance and coverage to be valid.
